What are the peculiarities of the skin of the penis?
The skin of the penis is as thin as that of the back of the hand, that is to say less than a millimeter thick. Contrary to what one might believe, it does not have any particular elasticity because it is the reserve of skin in the foreskin which allows erection. Like any other part of the body, it is subject to intrinsic aging which leads to dryness and relaxation.
Why does it require special attention?
It is in fact an area that requires special care because of the mechanical factors it undergoes such as the friction of daily life. This is the case, for example, during a movement as ordinary as walking, particularly when wearing tight clothing, during sporting activity or sexual intercourse.
The use of treatments based on active ingredients such as calendula, known for its hydrating, softening, soothing, anti-inflammatory and even healing properties, is therefore particularly indicated for this area in order to compensate for dryness and irritation.
Circumcised or uncircumcised men, same fight?
After circumcision, the extremely sensitive mucous membrane of the glans, which is exposed, will gradually become keratinized, that is to say, covered with dry skin. Here again, it is important to hydrate it with a suitable product because the products that we use for the body are not necessarily tested on the mucous membranes and should not be applied to the glans.
For uncircumcised people, the presence of the foreskin and the banalo-preputial fold promotes maceration, microbial proliferation and therefore bad odors. Cleaning with water and mild soap with a neutral pH is recommended once or twice a day, especially after any physical activity.
Ultimately, the anatomical and functional particularities of the male sex justify hygiene and attentive daily care using suitable, gentle, non-irritating and non-sensitizing products, respecting the flora and locoregional balance.
